I believe there are several inspiring aspects of working at the University of Lodz. First, the friendly and open-minded environment stands out, with a strong focus on welcoming international staff and students. Also, the university’s strong international collaborations, combined with its supportive environment, play a key role in fostering both personal and professional growth for its staff.

How would you describe the academic environment in Poland compared to other countries you have worked in?

From my experience, the academic environment in Poland is dynamic, collaborative, and strongly oriented towards internationalisation. Compared to other countries I’ve worked in; I’ve found that Poland combines high academic standards with a welcoming atmosphere for international scholars. There is a high level of academic freedom, and researchers are encouraged to explore interdisciplinary approaches. What I’ve especially appreciated is how focused Polish universities are on building international research networks and partnerships. Additionally, here at the university, there is a strong network supporting the integration of foreign individuals into daily life, which makes settling into the city and academic community much easier.

How does being a part of the University of Lodz community contribute to your personal and professional growth?

Being part of the University of Lodz community has been an incredibly rewarding experience for my professional and personal growth. Professionally, the university has made it possible for me to pursue my passion for studying the physiology of aquatic worms by funding my research project. It has also supported my participation in conferences and short stays in international laboratories, allowing me to refine my skills and broaden my scientific perspective. On a personal level, the university and faculty organise various events aimed at helping international scholars integrate into life in Lodz. These gatherings provide opportunities to connect with others and share experiences. It’s a place where you truly feel welcomed and part of a vibrant, supportive community.

What advice would you give to researchers considering the University of Lodz?

If you're considering the University of Lodz, you'll find a welcoming, collaborative environment that encourages open-minded thinking. With strong international partnerships, it's perfect for joining diverse research networks. Make the most of the resources, connect with researchers from different fields and explore Poland's funding opportunities to support your research. Lastly, explore and enjoy the vibrant city of Lodz itself, it's a place rich in history and culture, providing a unique environment for your academic work.

What surprised you most when you first arrived in Poland?

People were very friendly and always willing to help. Moreover, it is quite common for Poles to speak English, which makes daily life much easier. I am truly enjoying my “Polish adventure”. The nature in Poland is stunning, and the cities are rich in history, each offering
a unique glimpse into the country's past, shaped by a variety of cultural, political, and social influences.

I always highly recommend Poland and the University of Lodz as excellent destinations for researchers!

What aspects of the University of Lodz research environment would you highlight to other researchers who consider moving here?

Conducting research is very feasible at the University of Lodz. The university offers numerous facilities to support research activities, and the faculty members are open to collaboration. Additionally, Poland has several funding opportunities each year, providing researchers with multiple chances to apply for financial support for their projects.
